Gartner predicts sales of 1.2 billion smartphones and tablets in 2013, a 50 percent increase over this year. Smart devices, including smartphones and tablets, will account for 70 percent of the total number of devices sold by the end of 2012.  Read Original Content

IDC has released its latest prediction for the global mobile phone market, forecasting the industry will grow only 1.4 percent year over year in 2012, while smartphone shipments are expected to grow 45.1 percent from 2011.  Read Original Content

Canalys estimates just 25 developers accounted for half the application revenue in the United States in Apple’s App Store (iPhone only) and Google Play during the first 20 days of November 2012. Growth in the adoption of data services in South Africa is supporting the development of the mobile applications market, which is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 48 percent through 2017, according to a new report from Pyramid Research.  Read Original Content

Motorola Mobility will close down almost all of its operations in South Korea next year as its reorganization under the ownership of Google continues. The phone maker will keep 10 percent of its local R&D staff, who will be offered relocation packages. Read Original Content
