Global smartphone sales are set to grow by 18 percent in 2015, GfK Target Setter projections show. That growth will be driven by the developing markets in India, China and Indonesia. The US, Japan and the UK, which in 2014 were among the top five smartphone growth markets by value, will be knocked out of the top 10 next year.  Read Original Content

Hoping for a comeback, BlackBerry has launched its Passport smartphone in India. Targeted at power professionals like doctors, lawyers, CAs and businessmen, BlackBerry Passport is the size of a passport and has a square screen that measures 4.5 inches. Veracode has announced research conducted by IDG which reveals there is a growing gap in application security programs at enterprises in the US and UK. The data shows that in 2015 enterprises will leave up to 70 percent of internally developed applications unaudited for common threats such as SQL injection. Read Original Content

According to, the number of 4G (LTE) handset connections worldwide will increase from 178 million in 2013 to 1.4 billion in 2018 - a growth of 670 percent - while mobile handset data service revenue will only grow by 64 percent during the same period.  Read Original Content

While a survey by IT firm Oracle indicates “workers are happier than ever to work in a mobile and flexible way”, mobile app developers, driven by the smartphone revolution and what is called “mobile working”, are receiving orders for custom-made apps for their employees. Smartphones with screen sizes of 5.5-inch and above are emerging as the next big trend in the market with Apple entering the segment.  “The phablet market is going to boom with Apple’s entry. Intel, the semi-conductor maker, confirmed it had made a $1.5 billion investment for a 20 percent stake in Chinese state-backed Tsinghua Holdings, a chipmaker that will produce Intel-branded chips for mobile phones and other electronics.  Read Original Content

FBI Director James Comey said he is concerned about moves by Apple Inc. and Google Inc. to market phones that can’t be searched by law enforcement, saying agency officials have engaged in discussions with both companies.  Read Original Content

Nigeria's smartphone market is set to witness a major boost as a global phone manufacturer, and one of the earlier key players in Nigeria's mobile phone revolution, Alcatel Mobile, has re-entered the smartphone phone market with four new Android smartphones.  Read Original Content

Research and Markets has announced the addition of the Smartphone Market in China 2014-2018 report to their offerings. It predicts the smartphone market in China will grow at a compound annual growth rate of five percent over the period 2013-2018.  Read Original Content

TechNavio's analysts forecast the global mobile satellite services market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.39 percent over the period 2013-2018.  Read Original Content
