The first report of a three-country African Growth Market Study on mobile content and commerce by MEF, shows Kenyan industry leaders are optimistic about mobile content and commerce revenue growth. Together, the two companies will work to introduce Sionic Mobile’s loyalty services to Liberty USA’s 2,000 chain customers. According to Internet Retailer, in 2012, nine retailers out of 400, or around two percent, offered a bar code scanning feature to help shoppers access more information about products or scan and store a loyalty card in a mobile app for use at checkout in store. The NFC Forum, a non-profit industry association that promotes standards for NFC technology, has announced it has formed a liaison partnership with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, a trade association focused on Bluetooth technology. A new report finds consumers have become more willing to use tablets and smartphones for mobile commerce in recent years. In June 2013, 55 percent of retail-related Internet usage came from mobile devices, while only 45 percent came from desktops.  Read Original Content

Best Buy is making bold moves in mobile marketing this month in hopes of ramping up Black Friday sales.  With the stated goal of keeping customers aware of holiday discount shopping opportunities, Best Buy is strongly encouraging shoppers to opt-in to its SMS database with a holiday-specific keyword that, according to Mobile Commerce Daily, “will likely prompt consumers to join Best Buy’s mobile database once the holidays are over to keep opted in to future marketing opportunities.”  Read Original Content
